In Today's New-Look Independent

Today's Independent contains a number of changes that we believe enhance the value and, we trust, enjoyment for readers. The improvements include a new-look magazine which builds upon The Independent's reputation for innovation and originality and a 12-page pull-out travel section within the expanded Weekend Review.

The new Independent magazine breaks the mould of weekend supplements with a unique combination of photojournalism and fine writing. In today's issue, we celebrate the extraordinary life and pictures of Horst P Horst, one of the century's most innovative photographers, John Walsh writes about his love affair with the crossbow, and Anna Ford talks about her self-image. Plus, fashion, food with Simon Hopkinson, interiors and motoring.

The Traveller, a new 12-page travel section, pulls out from the Weekend Review. Today's cover story sees the novelist Howard Jacobson sample the streetlife and culture of Amsterdam, while Simon Calder, the Independent's uncompromising voice of travel, gives invaluable advice to the adventurous.

These new sections are part of a complete Saturday package, which includes The Information, our 68-page entertainment magazine that is an essential guide to going out and staying in, a main news section with 11 pages of sport, and a 10-page Your Money section with personal finance and property.

As a result of today's changes, several regular features have been given new homes. You will now find The Weasel on the back page of the Weekend Review, Tracey MacLeod's restaurant review in the expanded food and drink pages in the Weekend Review, and Howard Jacobson's weekly column moves from the magazine to page five of the Weekend Review. These improvements come at a time of renewed success for The Independent. After a succession of major awards for our journalists, audited circulation figures for May, released last week, showed sales rising for the fifth successive month with the highest year-on-year increase of any broadsheet daily newspaper.
