If you were tuned into the Twittersphere or read technology blog Mashable on the morning of March 4, you might have heard that desktop computers will be irrelevant in three years' time.

The headline broke and became the most talked about topic on Twitter after John Herlihy, European director of Online Sales, Google, spoke about the increasing popularity of smartphones as a primary computing device at the Digital Landscapes conference at Ireland's UCD (University College Dublin) on March 3.

"I think Google are wrong to say Desktops will be irrelevant in 3 years time, they may only be used for work & pros not casual home use," commented one Twitter user.

The hashtag "LetsBeReal" leaped into second place as people on the microblogging site were upfront with their feelings and thoughts about the world.

The fourth most talked about topic on Twitter this morning is "#randomthoughts". People are sharing their weirder musings about life, saying ""What you call dog with no legs? A: Don't matter what you call him, he ain't gonna come," "When Blind People dream is it just sound effects?" and "Why didn't Tarzan have a beard?"
