Current Twitter trends: Haiti, 'omgfacts', 'get well Lady Gaga'

The January 12 earthquake in Haiti is a continued topic of discussion on Twitter on the morning of January 15.

The term "Haiti" has topped Twitter's chart of most talked about topics as microbloggers try to help raise money for people living in the the disaster-stricken country.

Microbloggers are spreading and retweeting a chorus of posts urging people to give generously to those in need of shelter, food, water and medical attention.

Aid organizations have adjusted quickly to the social networking revolution, seeing the real-time web as a powerful tool that can help them get the word out to millions in the space of minutes.

"My heart goes out to all the people from Haiti," wrote a user concerned for the welfare of hundreds of thousands of Haitians whose homes were destroyed in the magnitude 7.0 earthquake.

"Red Cross has raised over $5,000,000 to help Haiti in the past 2 days," "One punishment for an adulterous wife in medieval France was to make her chase a chicken through town naked," "All of the Earth's continents are wider at the north than in the south, nobody knows why" and ""Watermelons can cost up to $100 in Japan" are just some of the tweets associated with the third most talked about term on Twitter on the morning of January 15, "#omgfacts" ('oh my god' facts).

The demanding schedule of American singer and pop icon, Lady Gaga, has reportedly started to take its toll. Gaga is said to have taken time off and had to cancel shows after "collapsing due to exhaustion." People on Twitter are wishing the pop star a quick return to good health.

Lady Gaga posted a message to her fans on her official Twitter page saying, "I've been crying for hours, I feel like I let my fans down 2nite. An hour before the show, I was feeling dizzy and having trouble breathing."
