International award for <i>Independent on Sunday</i>

The Independent on Sunday has been judged Europe's best designed weekly newspaper in the prestigious European Newspaper Awards 2001. It was chosen from a field of 185 newspapers, from 22 countries. The distinguished international jury praised both the newspaper's layout and use of photography. The paper was judged to have a "brilliant and elegant" appearance, with "generous use of white space and graceful typography, both of which create an unmistakable image".
