Journalist from The Independent wins Outstanding Young Journalist of the year at Asian Media Awards

Shehab Khan, a reporter and political columnist for The Independent, has won the Outstanding Young Journalist of the Year at the Asian Media Awards.

The award was given for news reports, opinion pieces and a range of exclusive stories written by Mr Khan for The Independent.

There was special mention of articles including the scandal surrounding the junior doctor contracts, an exclusive interview with Guy Verhofstadt, and Voices pieces on Jeremy Corbyn’s chances during the general election.

Discussing the award Mr Khan said: “It is an honour and privilege to be given such a prestigious award and be recognised for my work.

"The support of senior staff at The Independent, including the editor-in-chief, Christian Broughton, deputy editor David Marley, and news editor, Richard Williams, cannot be praised enough.

"Being part of such a modern and revolutionary newsroom has been incredible and this award highlights the fantastic opportunities given to young members of staff to excel and take journalism to new unprecedented heights here at The Independent."
