BBC Radio boss Tim Davie has declared there are "no plans" to rebrand threatened station 6 Music.

The corporation's director of audio and music has previously talked about saving some of the station's programmes and placing them on other networks.

However, in a new online blog entry he said that there was no suggestion 6 Music would be revamped as Radio 2 Extra.

It follows reports that the digital service - which is earmarked for closure under a strategy review - would be given such a rebrand.

Davie wrote: "Let me make it clear that, while we have proposed rebranding Radio 7 as Radio 4 Extra, there are no such plans for 6 Music."

He said the proposed closure had proved a "hot topic", but "nothing will happen" in terms of future plans until a consultation by the BBC Trust into the review had closed.

He added: "I said we would look at protecting some 6 Music programming by redeploying it elsewhere and considering how we can also do justice to its legacy in areas like new music development. This commitment also remains."
