Highlights from the London 2012 Olympics have notched up a new record to become the best-selling sport DVD.

The release features more than seven hours of footage from last summer's Games, as well as film director Danny Boyle's acclaimed opening ceremony.

BBC Worldwide said 550,000 copies of the DVD/Blu-Ray have now been sold, compared with 501,000 of the previous top title, The Ashes 2005 - The Greatest Series.

The Olympics compilation, which hit the shops on October 29 last year and also features the closing ceremony, has become the best-selling sport and fitness DVD in the UK, the Official Charts Company and British Video Association said.

Fiona Eastwood, product development director at BBC Worldwide, said: "The London Olympics marked a phenomenal year for British sport and we are delighted that so many people have bought this wonderful souvenir of the Games and the fantastic achievements of Team GB."
