A teenage member of the Wates construction family, said to have had "a great future ahead of him", was shot dead by robbers while travelling in Honduras. William Wates was found dead in Danli last Thursday. He had been shot twice. He was the son of racehorse owner Andrew Wates, a director of the firm, whose horse Rough Quest won this year's Grand National.

Local police said preliminary investigations suggested the student from Wimbledon, south-west London, was killed during a robbery. They want to question two men thought to have left a hotel in Danli. William, 19, had been in South America for six months, working for a voluntary organisation for two months and travelling.
