The Newent Association for the Disabled, formed 10 years ago, is appealing for funds to finish the interior of its new headquarters and meeting-place. Having raised pounds 230,000, the association, which aims to help physically handicapped and elderly people living in Newent and villages in the North Forest of Dean, needs a further pounds 40,000 to complete the building. The association provides recreational activities, such as outings and arts and crafts, holidays and swimming, to some 65 local people - companionship is a high priority for the housebound - as well as a Dial-A-Ride scheme with seven minibuses for essential transportation. About 50 volunteers run these services. The new headquarters would bring the association's activities under one roof.

Newent Association for the Disabled, 6 Graces Pitch, Bury Bar, Newent, Gloucestershire GL18 1SU, telephone 0531 820078.
