She beat artists including Azealia Banks and Iggy Azalea to win Best Female Hip Hop Artist at last night’s BET awards, but Nicki Minaj focused on her family and brought her mum on stage with her.

"I just really wanted to bring my mommy up, because I always talk about my mommy and this is the first time the world is going to see her," Nicki said, introducing Carol to the crowd as she accepted the award.

"I wanna thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you’ve done for me. I love you so much."

Nicki dedicated part of her speech to the other women nominated in the category, and also thanked everyone involved in her third studio album The Pinkprint, which came out in December.

She also won the Coca-Cola Viewers Choice Award for her song "Only" featuring Drake, Lil Wayne and Chris Brown, and was nominated for Video Of The Year for the racy viral hit "Anaconda", but lost to Beyonce’s "7/11".
