Funeral services for Christina Grimmie will take place near her New Jersey hometown on Friday.

The 22-year-old singer, who was a former contestant on The Voice, was signing autographs at a concert venue in Orlando, Florida on Friday (10 June) when an assailant opened fire on her and then shot and killed himself.

Approximately 120 people were inside the venue at the time. The singer was immediately taken to hospital in critical condition but died from her injuries.

On Friday, a viewing will be held at Fellowship Alliance Chapel in Medford in New Jersey. In the evening, there will also be a memorial service held there.

Orlando police said Grimmie’s killer did not appear to know her or have any connection with her. Her killer, Kevin James Loibl, is from St Petersburg in Florida and travelled across the state to target Grimmie. Loibl had been carrying two guns, two loaded magazines and a hunting knife on himself during the shooting.

Tributes for Grimmie have poured in from around the world since the news of her death first emerged.

The singer amassed a following of millions after uploading her performances to her YouTube channel at the age of 15.

It was through these videos that Selena Gomez’s step-father, Brian Teefy, discovered Grimmie and became her manager. Teefy, who has described Grimmie as “like a second daughter to me”, has launched a GoFundMe page asking for donations and has raised over £120,000 for her family.

Most recently, Grimmie appeared on The Voice's sixth season in 2014 and later began performing with punk rock band Before You Exit.
