CNN has apologised to Donald Trump after a producer was heard joking about his plane crashing in leaked off-air footage.

Footage filmed ahead of a live shoot and posted on YouTube showed reporter Suzanne Malveaux preparing for a broadcast. In the background, a woman’s voice is heard saying: “That means his plane’s crashed. No, I'm kidding.“

The comment was made as the crew waited for the President-elect’s plane to land.

“An unfortunate and inappropriate remark was made by one of our producers off camera yesterday,” a spokesperson for CNN told The Independent. We have apologised to the Trump transition team, and the producer has been disciplined.”

Mr Trump’s team has not commented.
