Comedian Jason Manford has spoken of his relief after a lump on his testicles was found to be a non-cancerous cyst.
Speaking to his 809,000 fans on Facebook two days ago, the Mancunian admitted that he’d found a “little lump” on his “favourite testicle” and had booked himself a doctor’s appointment.
Keeping his followers abreast with developments, the father-of-three gave regular updates and said that he thought the media attention to it was slightly overwhelming: “I guess if it makes another bloke get himself checked then it's worth it!” he said.
Thankfully, a scan today proved that the lump was a cyst and “nothing to worry about”.
The 33-year-old said that his left testicle is slightly enlarged, while the doctor advised that he also had “varicocele, which can happen to people who spend a lot of time stood up! So basically like Tennis Elbow, I've got ‘Stand Up Comedian's Bollock’.”
He said: “This hot Swedish nurse came in, and asked if she could have a look, and I was like ‘sure yeah’ and so she did and then she smiled and said (and I'm sure she won't mind me quoting her on this) ‘Those are some of the greatest looking testicles I've ever seen in my life, and that's my medical and personal opinion’ Then she winked and left.
“So that was a nice boost for the boys. Love the NHS.”
He then urged other young men to check their testes and posted a link to a testicular cancer resource site which details how to give oneself a self-examination.
“So come on lads, I've done it and yes I'm not going to lie to you, I'm a bit embarrassed that we're even talking about it, but give them a feel later while you're in the bath or shower and just check for anything that feels a bit weird,” he implored.
Jason Manford will be one of the main acts at an anti-austerirty comedy fundraiser event on Monday.
Hosted at the Hammersmith Apollo in the London, the evening’s political comedy will come after a march organised by The People’s Assembly Against Austerity. Other performers include Jo Brand, Stewart Lee and Marcus Brigstocke.
