David Cameron and Boris Johnson amble to aid of collapsed woman, as paramedic answering 999 call finds PM holding her hand

Their gesture of basic human decency came amid another challenging day for the Tory pair’s popularity

David Cameron and Boris Johnson proved they were far from the bumbling, unobservant members of the Conservative government many perceive them to be when they pulled over their car to amble to the aid of a woman who had collapsed on the street.

"I was told the Prime Minister and Boris Johnson had pulled over when they noticed a woman collapsed on the street," Paramedic Dominic Stark, who answered the 999 call to the scene in Harrow, told ITV news.

"When I arrived a few minutes later, I found the Prime Minister holding the woman’s hand. I took over caring for the patient and they left a few minutes later."

After being medically assessed, the patient was later taken to hospital.

The Mayor of London and Cameron were apparently on their way across town to a campaign event in the capital.

Their gesture of basic human decency came amid another challenging day for the Tory pair’s popularity.

Johnson came under fire after he bizarrely compared the BBC’s sacking of DJ David Lowe to militant Islamist group Boko Haram in his weekly column for The Telegraph.

"In our own modest way, we live in a Boko Haram world, where it all depends on the swirling rage of the internet mob, and where terrified bureaucrats and politicians are borne along on a torrent of confected outrage," he wrote.

"There is no consistency in the outlook of the Nigerian maniacs: they use weapons produced by the very capitalist system they claim to deplore, for instance.

"There is certainly no logic at the BBC. They should restore Mr Lowe to his job - if he will take it - and the entire BBC board should go down to Devon to apologise in person, and at their own expense.

"Their treatment of this man is utterly disgraceful."

Meanwhile, David Cameron curried little favour – other than Conservative supporter Gary Barlow’s, of course – when he defended the Take That singer after critics angered by claims he paid millions into a tax avoidance scheme called for him to hand back his OBE.

"Gary Barlow has done a huge amount for the country, he has raised money for charity, he has done very well for Children in Need, so I'm not sure," he said on Good Morning Britain. "The OBE is in respect of that work and what he has done."

It also comes just a week after Labour leader Ed Miliband was hailed as an 'action hero' for stopping to help a "confused" cyclist who had taken a fall in Kentish Town.

"He kept asking if I was OK, if I was hurt. He was there for a good few minutes," Ella Phillips, 29, told the Camden New Journal.

"What added to all the confusion was that he was actually attractive and not geeky at all. Even the way he appeared was suave. He was dressed casually but he had style. I'll definitely be voting for him now."
