Wednesday 1 June: Mounted bands of the Household Cavalry, Massed bands of the Guards Division and Corps of Drums of Foot Guards Battalion beat retreat by floodlight, Horse Guards Parade, London SW1 (also 2 June). Suffolk Show begins, Suffolk Showground, Ipswich. Royal Bath and West of England Show begins, Shepton Mallet, Somerset. Horse racing, The Derby, Epsom.

Thursday 2: Anniversary of the Queen's Coronation: 41-gun royal salute, Hyde Park, 12pm; 62-gun royal salute, Tower of London, 1pm. Cricket, first Test begins, England v New Zealand, Trent Bridge.

Friday 3: Greenwich Festival begins, London SE10. Unveiling of the Canadian Monument, Green Park, London SW1.

Saturday 4: Trooping the Colour, Horse Guards Parade, London SW1. Bournemouth International Festival begins, Bournemouth.

Sunday 5: First Sunday after Trinity. Summer Exhibition opens, Royal Academy, London W1. National Trust Teddy Bears' Picnic, Brownsea Island, Poole Harbour, Dorset.
