Scott Baio defends Donald Trump's sexist comments: 'Ladies, this is what guys talk about when you're not around'

'If you're offended by it, grow up okay?' Baio tells women

Actor Scott Baio has defended lewd and sexist remarks made by Donald Trump by telling women the comments heard in a leaked recording were just a sample of what men talk about behind closed doors.

On Friday evening, the 2005 recording of Mr Trump talking to the Access Hollywood host Billy Bush was leaked. In the recording, the Republican candidate made a series of lewd comments about women including boasting that he was such a “star” he can grab women “by the p***y”.

Mr Trump has since issued somewhat of an apology for the remarks, while also dismissing them as “locker room banter” – something he did several times during Sunday night’s debate against the Democrat candidate Hillary Clinton.

Now, one of his few celebrity supporters has defended him, saying women say equally worse things and that the comments were “not a big thing”.

“I like Trump because Trump is not a politician, he talks like a guy,” former Happy Days actor Baio told Fox News on Sunday. “And ladies out there, this is what guys talk about when you’re not around. So if you’re offended by it, grow up, ok?

“And, by the way, this is what you guys talk about over white wine when you have your brunches. So take it easy with the phoney outrage, this is the way the world works. It’s not a big thing.

Several men on Twitter responded to the 56-year-old’s comments by highlighting that such comments are not exemplary of their normal conversations.

Another actor and Trump supporter, Jon Voight, also defended the 70-year-old over the weekend, saying he did not “know of too many men who haven’t expressed some sort of similar sexual terms towards women, especially in their younger years”.

Baio and Voight were relatively soliatary in their defence of Mr Trump after several high-profile Republicans denounced their candidate in the aftermath of the leaked recording. Arnold Schwarzenegger, John McCain and Mitt Romney have all said they would not be voting for Mr Trump in light of the controversy.

Several athletes have also blasted Mr Trump for his defence of “locker room talk”, stressing that they say nothing of the kind when they are actually in locker rooms on a day-to-day basis.
