Football pundit Harry Redknapp ran over his wife after her coat got caught in the door of his Range Rover on Wednesday, it has been claimed.

Sandra Redknapp was seriously injured when her husband pulled away while her foot was still inside the car.

Witnesses told how the 69-year-old screamed with agony on the pavement after being dragged along the road, leaving her bleeding heavily and with serious injuries to her foot.

The ex-Premier League manager, also 69, was dropping his wife at shops in the Westbourne area of Bournemouth when the accident occurred, it was claimed.

“I was in a shop and a couple of people came in and said, ‘Crikey, there’s a lady who’s been dragged along the road’, then someone else came in and said it was Harry Redknapp who had just dropped his wife off,” one local told The Sun.

“I heard as he drove off she got her coat caught in the door. She was dragged along the road before he realised. I think she has been badly injured.”

Onlookers said the street was still heavily stained with blood hours after the accident.

“We were called at 11.49am to Poole Road, in Bournemouth. There was one female casualty in her 60s. She had a foot injury and has been taken into hospital,” said a South Western Ambulance Service spokesman.

Ms Redknapp was said to have been taken into surgery for her injured foot, and her husband was thought to be by her bedside following the incident.

The accident occurred just four miles from the couple’s £5 million home in the Sandbanks area of Poole.

“Sandra is in hospital but she’s fine, it’s a private family matter,” a source close the family told The Sun.
