Jeremy Clarkson has been formally let go by the BBC after attacking a producer in what the corporation described as "a physical altercation accompanied by sustained and prolonged verbal abuse of an extreme nature".

The presenter - who always divided opinion - was supported by a million-strong petition to keep him at the helm of BBC's flagship motoring programme.

With views ranging from sorrow to joy, here's how social media utterly lost it after Clarkson's eviction.

People were even worried for Nancy Cameron, the Prime Minister's daughter, who had threatened to go on hunger strike over Clarkson's suspension.
