Jerry Hall has criticised “normal women” who undergo plastic surgery, describing them as “pathetic, insecure creatures”.

The model, actress and former wife of Rolling Stone Mick Jagger, spoke about the risk of complications arising from cosmetic procedures during an interview with Hello! magazine.

“It’s so idiotic when [women] risk their lives to have surgery. Every time you have anaesthesia you’re killing a lot of brain cells – why would you do that? You could get infections, you could die,” she said.

“Why make yourself look a grotesque caricature of yourself? They don’t fool anyone. They look like pathetic, insecure creatures. I loathe the whole thing.”

Hall added that she understands and “respects” the pressure for older actresses in Hollywood to retain their good looks, so much so that she “feels sorry for them”.

“But for normal women to do it? If men want to leave their wife for a 19-year-old, they’re gonna do it anyway,” she argued. “All the facelifts and botex in the world isn’t going to change that guy, you know?”

Hall credits yoga, swimming and a healthy diet free of bread and sugar for her own youthful appearance.

“My face and body have been a tool for my career and I’m very conscious of that aspect, and try and keep it the best I can,” she said.

Actress Renee Zellweger was forced to address speculation that she had undergone plastic surgery after a public appearance in October set the social media world ablaze with comments about her "different" looks.

"I'm living a different, happy, more fulfilling life and I'm thrilled that perhaps it shows," the Bridget Jones' Diary star said in response.

Hall is set to star as the wicked queen in an upcoming Christmas pantomime of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at London’s Richmond Theatre.
