Lawyers acting for Justin Bieber have ordered media outlets to stop publishing pictures of their client naked at a holiday home in Bora Bora.

The images were first published by the New York Daily News, who covered his genitals with a modesty bar, and then by the Daily Mail. The original images showing Bieber, 21, completely nude were also leaked online and shared by thousands.

The singer’s lawyers responded to the pictures by sending cease and desist letters demanding the photos be removed from websites on the basis they breach Bieber’s privacy rights and infringe upon his trademarks.

The letter seen by The Hollywood Reporter reads: "We recently became informed that your company has obtained and is distributing unauthorised photographs of our Client including images showing him without clothing.”

The magazine claims his legal firm, Myman Greenspan, has threatened to sue if the pictures are not taken down from websites.

Bieber has not responded directly to the images, but shared a topless picture on Instagram on Thursday evening in what some considered to be a show of defiance.

A number of blogs and media outlets criticised those circulating the explicit images, claiming the response would be outrage if a female celebrity was photographed nude unsuspectingly.

The photo agency responsible for the nude images denied claims they violated his right to privacy, telling The Independent: “There’s no invasion of privacy”.
