LETTER:If you make a mess, clear up
YOUR editorial justifiably criticises the Government and Shell over policies and activities that adversely affect the environment. You also refer to Mori opinion poll findings that report that two-thirds of Britons believe the environment is more important than the economy and that two-fifths of the public are "green consumers".
I would be interested to know how many of these "green consumers" pollute the environment by combusting the products of oil companies as they drive to supermarkets to purchase "green" consumables and deposit bottles in bottle banks. Your article includes the term "greener motoring". For as long as motoring entails the use of the petrol-driven internal combustion engine, "green motoring" will head the list of great 20th-century oxymorons.
