Matt Cage: Professional wrestler comes out as gay in Facebook post
'I had to act and that's not me,' he told fans
Professional wrestler Matt Cage has come out as gay.
Cage, whose real name is Matt Hullum, posted the heartfelt message on his Facebook account earlier this week telling fans that he was not bisexual – as he previously stated – but gay.
The professional wrestler, who has worked for IWA Mid-South and Dragon Gate US, said that although one of his “biggest fears” had been rejection, the 26-year-old wrote that he felt he needed to “silence everyone” by telling the truth, Pink News first reported.
“I spent the majority of my life lying, hiding and depressed because I felt like I couldn't truly be who I wanted to be and live freely as I saw fit,” he wrote.
“I had to act and that's not me. I, nor anyone else, should have to do that.”
The wrestler, who in his original Facebook said that his parents and close friends were already aware of his sexuality, has subsequently posted on his Twitter account a thank you message to supporters.
