The status of women in the country was one of the justifications for the intervention, which promoted democratic governance, peace and the rule of law as well as rights for women. But with a process underway to leave Afghanistan once more in the hands of the Taliban when troops retreat in 2014, where will this leave women's rights?
Charity ActionAid asked Afghan women from every walk of life how life has changed for them since the fall of the Taliban and their fears for the future.
