Cheryl Fernandez-Versini has defended herself from an Instagram commenter calling her a ‘bag of bones’, saying she’s ‘sick and tired’ of it being acceptable to shame someone for being too thin.

The singer was taken to Italy for her 32nd birthday by her husband, Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini, and she shared a picture on Instagram.

But after being called a ‘bag of bones’ by one commenter, she spoke out about the regular body-shaming of thinner women and how it wasn’t okay to judge any woman on her appearance.

“I would never dream of calling somebody too fat and that they should maybe cut down on their food intake? What is the difference?” she said.

“You have no idea what I’ve been through. Just losing my father in law v recently and everything that comes with that.

“Not that I am or should justify myself to anyone,” she added.

“I’m so f sick of people thinking it’s ok to be mean or body shame anyone. And it’s woman on woman. Have some respect and maybe think there may be reasons why before opening your mouth please.”

The singer told her followers that it’s okay for people to be naturally thin, pointing out that her mother is only 4’11 and ‘six stone something’ and is in good health.

Her Instagram was flooded with support from fans who praised her for speaking out against online bullies.

Cheryl is gearing up for her return to the X Factor this summer, and will be joined by new judges Rita Ora and Nick Grimshaw with returning judge Simon Cowell.
