Justin Bieber's friend Lil Za arrested over suspected drugs at singer's mansion after police raid following egging incident

The star's home was searched after he allegedly threw eggs at a neighbour's property, causing 'extensive damage'

Police have searched pop star Justin Bieber's home following allegations the singer had thrown eggs at a neighbour's property.

About 12 investigators reportedly searched Bieber's home and one member of the singer's entourage was arrested for allegedly possessing cocaine.

The man was later identified as rapper Lil Za, real name Xavier Smith, 20.

The drug was initially described as cocaine, but authorities later said they were testing it to verify its contents.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Lt. David Thompson confirmed that Bieber was at the residence at the time of the search and co-operated with the authorities but was not formally interviewed. Thompson said he expected the singer to speak with detectives when his attorney could be present.

"He has not been arrested, nor has he been exonerated," Lt Thompson said.

Thompson added that a judge authorized the search warrant, which was to seek video surveillance or any evidence of vandalism that may have occurred.

He said the house Mr Bieber allegedly threw eggs at had custom wood and other expensive features and up to several thousands of dollars in damage had been caused.

"I get that the eggs don't seem that significant, but it does rise to the level of a felony," Lt Thompson said. "There is a victim in this case who has extensive damage done to their home. And that's a serious incident."

The singer lives in a gated community in Calabasas, a celebrity enclave about 30 miles (48 kilometers) northwest of downtown Los Angeles. Four helicopters hovered over the neighborhood hours after the warrant was served.

Previous investigations into Bieber's conduct by the sheriff's department against the 'Boyfriend' star have not resulted in charges.

In October, prosecutors declined to charge Bieber after a neighbour complained he drove recklessly through the area. Prosecutors in November 2012 also declined to charge the singer after a paparazzo accused him of punching and hitting him after leaving a cinema.
