Kate Moss may have the world's most valuable tattoos. The model has revealed that two swallows on her back were inked by the late Lucien Freud, whose paintings command millions of pounds.

Last year, Garage magazine asked Damien Hirst to design a butterfly tattoo for the pudendum of a model, and also invited Dinos Chapman to create one for himself.

Like wealthy patrons of the past, paying painters for portraits, the more "traditional" artists of today could cash in on the current celebrity affection for tats. Hey, it could even be seen as an investment; that is, until you try to sell them...
