Following on from an episode tinged with tragedy, this week lifted the mood with something lighter.
Model Katie Price and her boyfriend Alex Reid have married in Las Vegas, a spokesman for the couple said today.
The couple tied the knot in a "private, simple" ceremony in the US resort at 4pm local time yesterday (midnight GMT).
The newlyweds said in a statement: "We are very much in love and look forward to the future together. We can't wait to get back and celebrate our marriage with our friends and family who we know fully support our wishes."
Price, 31, who split from ex-husband Peter Andre in May last year, has been dating cage fighter Reid, 34, for around seven months.
Much of their relationship has been played out in public thanks to a string of TV appearances and extensive newspaper coverage.
A statement from the couple's publicist said: "Their decision to marry has not been made with any pre-conceived commercial plan or media deal in place, and their reason for getting married is purely down to their love for each other."
They are due back in the UK later this week.
Yesterday mother-of-three Price - also known as Jordan - used a magazine interview to reveal she had plans to marry Reid, who last week was crowned winner of Celebrity Big Brother.
In an interview with OK!, Price declared: "This year I will marry Alex and I'm going to have his kids."
Asked if she had proposed to him, she added: "No, that's no-one's business.
"But he feels the same...I know this year we will get married and this year we will have kids. It's what we want."
Asked if she would become Katie Reid, Price said: "I'll change my passport, my cheque book, everything.
"I want to be traditional, the way marriage is meant to be."
The pair briefly split last year, after Price dumped Reid on live TV during her exit interview on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!.
But the model said she had been "heartbroken" at breaking off the relationship, and the couple were reunited.
Price and Reid were pictured in a Las Vegas jewellery store before the ceremony yesterday.
The couple are also reported to have secured a £1 million deal for exclusive pictures of their wedding.
It is the latest episode in Price's life, which has been lived in the glare of publicity since she became a popular teenage glamour model.
She is a millionaire thanks to a line of merchandising products, from lingerie, jewellery and perfume to equestrian gear and a string of hit novels, children's books and autobiographies.
Price has even tried her hand at singing and made an ill-advised attempt to enter the Eurovision Song Contest.
She has had previous liaisons with the singer Gareth Gates and Gladiator Ace, alias Warren Furman, singer Dane Bowers and Manchester United footballer Dwight Yorke.
In 2004, she took part in hit reality TV show I'm A Celebrity: Get Me Out Of Here.
Viewers were transfixed as romance blossomed between Price and Peter Andre in the Australian jungle.
The pair soon became a golden media couple, boosting their wealth and popularity with countless magazine deals, plus a string of hit fly-on-the-wall reality shows, detailing their fairytale wedding and domestic ups and downs.
However, by early 2009, the cracks in her relationship with Andre began to show and the pair announced their separation in May.
As their divorce was finalised, Price had already embarked on a relationship with Reid, whose profile has since soared.
