Sienna Miller accepts £35,000 damages

Actress Sienna Miller today accepted £35,000 damages in settlement of her privacy action against News Group Newspapers.

Her legal firm Carter-Ruck said it related to a "series of intrusive articles and photographs" published in the News of the World and The Sun in June and July.

Her solicitor, Mark Thomson, said the terms were approved by a senior High Court official, Master Fontaine, at an unlisted hearing at London's High Court.

As well as the payment of damages, News Group has given appropriate undertakings and agreed to pay the 26-year-old star's legal costs.

Mr Thomson said Tom Crone, the senior lawyer for News Group Newspapers had sent, on behalf of The Sun and the News Of the World, a letter to Ms Miller.

It read: "I refer to your legal claim against News Group Newspapers, the publishers of the Sun and the News of the World, that was issued in July of this year.

"We have now had an opportunity to look into this matter. We acknowledge that on the specific facts and circumstances of this case you had a reasonable expectation of privacy in respect of the information and the photographs that we published in the Sun and the News of the World.

"We also accept that we should not have published such information or such photographs."

Mr Thomson said Ms Miller was pursuing her various claims against photo agency Big Pictures.
