Obituary: Bernard Moitessier
Bernard Moitessier, yachtsman died 16 June, near Paris, aged 69. In 1968-69 sailed solo one and a half times around the world. Had set sail in a round-the-world race. Abandoned an attempt to win, but did not touch land until reaching Tahiti. Author of The Long Road (1972) and Tamata and the Alliance (1993) chronicling his many voyages and adventures as a captain of a junk in the 1950s.
