Obituary: Professor Frank Wright
SORROW at the death of Frank Wright (obituary by Richard Jay, 13 February) is shared by many throughout Northern Ireland, writes Fiona Stephen.
It is with particular affection and gratitude that his work will be remembered by all those in the integrated education movement. His monograph Integrated Education and New Beginnings in Northern Ireland (1990) is one of the landmark studies on the historical evolution and political significance of integrated education in Ireland. Based upon a profound knowledge of Irish history, but informed by a deep empathy for the two communities who inhabit the north of Ireland in particular, it is a reference work for all those who believe that the future of the province must be built on reconciliation and mutual understanding rather than violence and denial.
