Obituary: Sidney Griller
MAY I add to Christopher Rowland's admirable and comprehensive obituary of Sidney Griller (22 November)? writes Professor Yfrah Neaman. And pay tribute to this creative work for the London (formerly Portsmouth) International String Quartet Competition?
From 1977 when, as Artistic Consultant, I began to organise the musical side of the first competition, until Sidney Griller retired from the Board of Management after the 1991 competition, his support and counsel were invaluable. He gave generously of his time, wisdom, experience and vision in helping with many of the musical aspects of the competition.
In recognition of, and gratitude for, his constructive role, the London International String Quartet Competition has now established a special Sidney Griller Prize.
