Richard Keys' wife has said she is "reassured" her husband did not have an affair and that she is not seeking a divorce from him.

The Daily Mail reported that the 59-year-old former Sky Sports presenter had a relationship with a 27-year-old he met in Qatar on Saturday.

After this, Keys' wife, who has cancer, spoke to The Mirror saying what her husband and the woman he allegedly cheated with had done to her was "disgusting", especially given that they knew about her "condition". She also claimed Keys has been bombarding her with "desperate" pleas to get back together and she had instigated divorce proceedings.

But Ms Key's wife has now explained she is "reassured" her husband did not have an affair and she is looking forward to spending time with him in the future. She also said her cancer was stable.

In a statement sent to The Independent, a representative for Ms Keys said: “I reacted yesterday to a series of allegations.

"Having spoken with all the parties involved, I am reassured that there was no 'affair', and I am looking forward to spending time with my husband going forward.

"For other reasons, the family has been under enormous strain recently, and it has not been easy to be apart from Richard for six months.

"Regarding the information about my health, I believe my cancer to be stable. At the moment, I am fit and healthy, and I hope that this continues to be the case.

"I am not seeking a divorce from my husband.”

Keys has not released a statement on the issue but claimed there were many inaccuracies in the media reports. “I expected a mixed bag of reaction, thanks for the support. There are many inaccuracies in the reports,” he tweeted on Saturday.

Keys resigned as Sky presenter in 2011 after leaked footage appeared on YouTube of him and co-host Andy Gray making sexist remarks about women. Keys and Gray, who had previously been the face of Premier League football, apologised for their behaviour. After leaving Sky Sports, the TV personality presented a football show on TalkSport Radio and later moved to Qatar, where he now works with BeIN sports channels.

A representative for Keys did not immediately respond to request for comment.
