The public is convinced the Royal baby will be a girl named Alice, as thousands continue to place bets on the every aspect of the Duchess of Cambridge’s impending labour.

As the frenzy over the latest addition to the Royal family mounts relentlessly, Royal baby watchers are determined that Prince George will soon be accompanied by a princess named Alice.

Bookmaker William Hill said the number of bets placed on female names suggests the public "expects them to be the perfect family".

Rupert Adams, spokesman for William Hill, told Reuters: "We've had two bets of 500 pounds both on the name being Alice and this is massive, massive bets for us. The average bet on this type of market is about three to five pounds."

Betfair Sportsbook said the “perfect” scenario for punters would be if the baby had blonde hair, arrived between 24 and 27 April and weighed between 8lb and 8lb 15oz. Meanwhile, Kate would need to emerge from the Lindo Wing in a purple or orange dress.

Ladbrokes has Alice at 5/4, closely followed by Elizabeth at 6/1. Arthur, at 8/1, continues to be the most popular name for a boy. Betfair has Alice at 6/4, Charlotte at 9/2 and Elizabeth at 8/1. The first boy's name on their list of odds is James at 14/1.

Ladbrokes spokesperson Jessica Bridge said betting is reaching “fever pitch". “It looks like punters will be quids in if the Prince or Princess arrives this weekend," she said.

Cormac Dowling, Politics and Novelties Trader for Betfair agreed. “Should the newest Royal decide she wants to arrive on a weekday before the end of April and the doting parents call her Victoria, well then we are going to be in trouble.”

However, not all members of the public have opted to bet on traditional names. Some gamblers are actually betting on the names Chardonnay, Elvis, Olympia and Psy.
