Police support lower drink limit
Senior police officers yesterday backed a proposal to cut the legal drink- drive limit to the equivalent of about a pint of lager.
The national executive of the Police Superintendents' Association of England Wales want to see a driver's legal alcohol limit reduced from 80 to 50 milligrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood. They also suggested roadside testing for drugs.
The association's policy move on lower alcohol levels follows a similar proposal by the Association of Chief Police Officers and the British Medical Association and will increase pressure for government action.
