Police tutor denies harassment claim

A police tutor denied asking an arrested glue sniffer if he would like to have sex with a female officer in the back of a police van. PC Dean Mountain, 30, told a Leeds industrial tribunal that PC Karen Wade, 27, had "made up" a string of sexual harassment allegations against him. The officer, who has special responsibilities to tutor new recruits, said he was baffled by her allegations.

PC Wade has complained of sexual harassment against PC Mountain and two other male officers. PC Robin Schofield, who was sitting between PC Mountain and PC Wade when the glue sniffer was bundled into the van, told the tribunal: "If it had happened as Karen alleged I would have intervened and told Dean Mountain to shut up." The tribunal was adjourned.
