AN EARTHQUAKE with a magnitude of 6.3 rattled central New Zealand yesterday, but no damage or casualties were reported.

The earthquake, which struck just after 9pm, was felt strongly in Wellington but reports also came in from as far as Gisborne in the north and Christchurch on the South Island, according to Russell Robinson, a seismologist at the Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences.
