MORE THAN 15,000 people face evacuation from their homes in north- east Hungary after the River Tisza rose to a record level as thawing snow and rain threatened to flood other parts of the country.

Some 600 residents have been relocated in Szabolcs-Szatmar county. About 864,000 acres across the country are flooded and a mass vaccination programme against typhoid has begun.
