Lunar eclipse delight for sky watchers around the world

To mark this morning's lunar eclipse - the first in nearly three years -, we've brought you pictures of the spectacular event in case cloud cover (or sleep) impeded your view.

In this gallery of photographs you can see the Moon turning flame red, as it enters the dark inner, umbral part of the Earth’s shadow, before becoming totally cast in darkness by it.

We've also dug into the archives to find pictures of the last time a total lunar eclipse occurred in February 2008 so you can compare the two.
