Seventh seed Mary Pierce withdraws from the Wimbledon tournament

Mary Pierce, 19, finalist in the French Open three weeks ago, pulled out of Wimbledon yesterday 'for reasons far beyond my control'. Her estranged father, Jim, is reported to have vowed to 'create a big spectacle' at the championships which start on Monday.
