Lamborghini's new model only £2.58m

Car maker Lamborghini has revealed a new £2.58m model, despite building only three, all of which are sold. The latest in its tradition of bespoke cars, the Veneno is the fastest, most powerful Lamborghini ever built. Two of the buyers – both Americans – were in Geneva to get their first look at the car, having signed the contract long ago.

Viking 'sunstone' may be no myth

Scientists at last have grounds for believing that the mythical Viking "sunstone" used to navigate the seas did indeed exist. Researchers at the University of Rennes in Brittany believe a cloudy, cigarette-packet-shaped crystal is the substance described by the Norsemen as helping to locate the sun when obscured by cloud.

Soviet soldier is found after 32 years

A Soviet war veteran reported missing in action during fighting in Afghanistan 32 years ago has been found living as a local healer in the province of Herat. The soldier, who was rescued by Afghans after being wounded in the first months after the Soviet Union's invasion in 1979, was found by veterans.

Giant camel fossil found in the Arctic

Think animals of the frozen north and you think polar bear and walrus – but now you can also think camel. Canadian researchers have discovered the first evidence of an extinct giant camel in the High Arctic. A 3.5 million-year-old fossil was unearthed on Ellesmere Island, the most northerly part of Canada, by the Arctic Ocean.

A Chinese takeaway delivery man has admitted he is the mystery figure dressed as Batman who handed an alleged criminal into a police station in the middle of the night. Stan Worby, 39, has protested that he looks overweight in the pictures as he had to wear a tracksuit under the outfit because of the cold.

Fugitive jailed after admitting 1993 theft

A man from Essex who spent almost 20 years as a fugitive in the US has been jailed for five years after admitting the theft of a security van containing £1.2m in cash. Eddie Maher stole the vehicle from outside a Lloyds Bank branch in Felixstowe, Suffolk, in 1993. He was arrested by US authorities last year. MORE

Bolshoi dancer held over acid attack

Russian police detained one of the Bolshoi Ballet's top dancers yesterday over an acid attack that nearly blinded the troupe's artistic director and exposed fierce backstage rivalries. Pavel Dmitrichenko, a soloist, is suspected of plotting the attack that left Sergei Filin, 42, with severe burns.

Labour plans to get tough on migrants

Profits soar by 34 per cent at npower

Energy giant npower has posted a 34 per cent leap in annual profits to €480m (£414m), less than four months after hitting customers with an inflation-busting price hike. The German-owned company hiked its UK electricity prices by 9 per cent in November, and put up gas bills by 8.8 per cent, pushing the average customer's dual fuel bill up by more than £100 to £1,352 a year.
