Extra covers

Every weekday with The Independent print edition, Extra offers the best writing, the sharpest columns and cutting-edge culture.

Extra marks another exciting stage in the development of The Independent print edition. Since the paper launched 20 years ago, we have maintained a reputation for innovation, and in September 2003, we became Britain's first quality compact daily newspaper. The ground-breaking move was recognised by a collection of major awards, and was rewarded with unprecedented rises in circulation.

But we are constantly striving to make The Independent more attractive and enhance its value for money, which is why we have introduced a new 24-page section called Extra, showcasing the best in journalism and photography and appearing every weekday. Some of the newspaper's regular features our daily column (for instance, John Walsh's Tales Of The City or Deborah Ross, Our Woman In Crouch End), the As If cartoon strip, our specialist pages (ranging from health coverage to fashion, technology and green living), the Ten Best, our puzzles page (including sudoku and the concise crossword) and our arts section together with easy-to-use television and radio listings will now be housed in the new pull-out.

Extra will also be home to a number of new features, including a chance for readers to write a review of anything they have experienced, from a pop concert to a book to a restaurant. Click HERE for further details.

In your new, improved Independent print edition, you will also find more space for news, business and sport. And all this for only 70p a day. We think it's good value. We hope you like it.

Every weekday you'll also find one of our special supplements: Monday , Media; Tuesday, Motoring; Wednesday, Property; Thursday, Education; and on Friday, the Arts & Books Review.

The special value-for-money continues over the weekend:

Saturdays: The Magazine, Traveller, Save & Spend and The Information (the essential guide to going out and staying in), plus comment from Howard Jacobson, the world-renowned Robert Fisk and also The Saturday Profile.

The Independent on Sunday: SportsWeek, Business, The Compact Traveller, Sunday Review and ABC plus News Review and comment from Janet Street-Porter and John Rentoul.
