Wenger to sign new Arsenal deal

Arsène Wenger will sign a new three-year contract at Arsenal within the next week, the length of the deal reflecting the long-term certainty the club have in their manager, which they feel has been vindicated in part by his first trophy in nine years, the FA Cup on Saturday.

Djokovic defeats Nadal in Italy

Novak Djokovic won his third Italian Open title yesterday, defeating the defending champion and world No 1 Rafael Nadal 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. The win gives the Serb momentum for the French Open, having now won four matches in a row against Nadal.

Watson back in top 100 with title win

Heather Watson is set to celebrate her 22nd birthday today by returning to the world’s top 100. The Briton claimed her second International Tennis Federation title of the year yesterday, winning the Prague Open.

Ox and Wilshere fit for England trip

Arsenal midfielders Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jack Wilshere will be fit and ready to travel to Portugal with the England squad today. The World Cup party meet up for the first time today at St George’s Park and leave for their training week in Vale do Lobo.

Sir Bradley Wiggins won the Tour of California yesterday as fellow Briton Mark Cavendish sprinted to the final-stage win. Wiggins finished the race 30 seconds ahead of Rohan Dennis and claim his first win of the season.

Porous Wasps earn narrow advantage

Downie ‘amazed’ to clinch gold

Britain’s Becky Downie said it was “the most amazing thing ever” after winning a gold medal at the European Artistic Championships in Sofia. She scored 15.500 on the uneven bars, beating Olympic champion Aliya Mustafina (15.266).
