Murray’s rival gets motherly help too

Defending US Open champion Andy Murray today faces Denis Istomin in the fourth round and the Uzbekistan player is coached by his mother – just like the Scot was in his younger years. Istomin said: “She gives me good words to improve my tennis, my life, everything.” MORE

Smyczek’s defeat seals US slump

The US wild card Tim Smyczek lost to Marcel Granollers in the third round yesterday, meaning the US does not have a man in the last 16 at the US Open for the first time in the tournament’s 132-year-history. It has been 10 years since an American man won a Grand Slam. MORE

Wasps could move within five years

London Wasps’ chairman, Mark Rigby, has claimed the club may move from their Adams Park home within five years. Rigby explained yesterday: “Ultimately, we can’t develop our business to its fullest extent without offering a first-class match-day experience.” MORE

England and India to play five Tests

England, who play an ODI against Ireland in Dublin today, will play a five-Test series against India next summer. The Tests will be played in 42 days starting on 9 July, with a five-match one-day series and a T20 following straight after. MORE

Ricciardo to drive for Red Bull

Red Bull have selected Daniel Ricciardo to replace Mark Webber in the team next season. The Australian, 24, has driven for Red Bull junior team Toro Rosso for the last two seasons and will partner the triple world champion Sebastian Vettel.

Dispute call on president McQuaid

The International Cycling Union has been asked to take a dispute over president Pat McQuaid standing for re-election to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. USA Cycling, with the backing of other national federations, has asked for the judgment. MORE
