nMr Blair last night suggested that Labour would keep the Government's voucher scheme for nursery education writes Paul Routledge.

Asked on Channel 4's A Week in Politics if he would scrap the system once it is in place, Mr Blair said: "No. If it's in place, then you have to work within the system that you take over and I don't know what changes we'll make to that now."

When the Government's plan was announced last week David Blunkett, Labour's education spokesman, denounced it as "a con-trick on children and parents".
