999 merger urged
Police, fire and ambulance services are inefficient and out of date and should be merged to form a faster, more responsive body, according to an Adam Smith Institute report. A joint emergency control centre would eliminate delay and inaccuracy caused by having separate command centres for each service in each area, the right- wing think-tank said.
