Railtrack is investigating another strike day safety incident. Two workers clearing tree branches overhanging a track allegedly came close to standing on a high voltage line because a manager failed to turn off the power. Railtrack said the incident at Guildford, Surrey, on 1 September was 'dangerous' and it was holding talks with the Health and Safety Executive.

A Railtrack spokeswoman said: 'There seems to have been a misunderstanding over which part of the track needed to be turned off.'
