The live broadcast of BBC Radio 5 Live temporarily went off air this morning as staff were evacuated during a fire alarm.

The radio station, based in Salford, played a pre-recorded interview conducted by Richard Bacon during the disruption at around 10.30am.

A BBC spokesman said the pre-recorded content was played on air for less than ten minutes.

The spokesman said: "A fire alarm and evacuation of Quay House at Media City led to BBC Radio 5 live and BBC Manchester being off air for around ten minutes.

"Pre-recorded content was aired on both stations. This was a false alarm and is being investigated."

The radio station moved to new premises at MediaCity UK, in Salford, alongside BBC Sport, in 2011.
