Boy and father die in river plunge
A seven-year-old boy and his father died yesterday when a car hit a bridge and plunged into the icy waters of a swollen river.
Four other people in the vehicle, a BMW, escaped as it sank in the river Nidd, in North Yorkshire, at Skip bridge, between York and Knaresborough.
The boy was carried a mile downstream before firemen plucked him from the water. He was revived but later died. The body of the boy's father, the driver of the car, was found in the vehicle.
