A CIRCUS show has been postponed because a star attraction has become unwell after eating a light bulb.

Jim Rose, founder of the Jim Rose Circus Sideshow, collapsed in Amsterdam. A spokeswoman said he had a piece of glass in his bowel.

'Mr Rose swallows many bulbs as well as 3ft razor-sharp swords,' she said. 'He was performing in Amsterdam when, unfortunately, a piece from a bulb became stuck. He collapsed and has been resting for several days at a hotel.'

The circus is due to arrive in Britain later this month, but one of the venues, the Town and Country Club in Leeds, yesterday confirmed that the show had been postponed from 27 July to 10 August.

The tour manager, Jan Gregor, said that other scheduled venues were Nottingham, Wolverhampton, Blackpool, and the Edinburgh Festival. Mr Gregor said in Amsterdam: 'Jim came back from doing some promotional work at a radio station and he still had some remains of glass at the bottom of his mouth.'

Mr Rose, 36, originally from Phoenix, Arizona, but now based in Seattle, is suffering from stomach cramps.
