Five people, including a 13-year-old girl, have been arrested on suspicion of murder in Essex.

Darren Kelly, 42, was fatally stabbed after a row in Caister Drive, Basildon, at around 9.30pm on Tuesday.

Essex police confirmed they had arrested a 13-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy, both from Basildon, a 20-year-old man, a 15-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy all from Pitsea.

The 13-year-old girl is presently in police custody, an Essex spokesperson confirmed.

It is believed Mr Kelly, a lorry driver, was stabbed during an altercation in an alley but managed to stumble to nearby flats for help.

Residents attempted to save Mr Kelly before paramedics arrived, but he later died in a Basildon hospital.

Caroline Crisp, 56, who has lived in one of the nearby blocks of flats for 15 years, said Mr Kelly had called all the buzzers of the buildings in an attempt to get help. She and her neighbour, a paramedic, rushed to help him.

"He was covered in blood and there was a trail of blood along the street," she told the Mail Online. "He had been stabbed in the side and arm. I cut his clothes off while she tried to treat him."

“I've lived here 15 years and never known anything like this.”

A post-mortem revealed he suffered multiple stab wounds and blood loss.
